Jessica Rabbit wearing her forest ranger’s outfit brings back the best memories of my animation career. Trail Mix-Up was the final installment in the series of Roger Rabbit shorts and directing it was not only a great privilege but hands down the most fun I’ve ever been paid to have. The only demand I recall from studio chiefs was, ”Make it funny!”. An alternate ending was storyboarded in which Roger not only ended up crashing Mr. Rushmore but did so while Alfred Hitchcock was directing ”North by Northwest”. In the end, securing rights turned out to be more than anyone wanted to bite off for a short cartoon. Regardless, the simple premise of Roger roasting weenies in the wilderness was plenty to chew on and Jessica’s cameo the Park Ranger is probably the film’s most memorable moment. This beautifully sculpted maquette will definitily receive a place of honor in my collection. After all, who can resist a gal in uniform?
