Bburago Disney Cars: A Collector’s Look at the Main Collections

Bburago is best known for die-cast model cars, but its Disney line gave the brand a very different look. Instead of using Disney as a decorative extra, Bburago developed a full licensed range around it, with multiple scales, named sub-collections, gift sets, and several clearly different visual styles.

Bburago started in Italy in 1974 and later became part of May Cheong Group in 2006. During the early 2000s, the brand released dedicated Disney catalogues, including documented editions for 2003, 2004, and 2005. By that point, the Disney line had grown into a broad programme with its own identity.

A Disney Line With Real Variety

The range covered 1:18, 1:24, and 1:43 scale and included the Disney Classic Collection, Disney Character Collection, Disney Cartoon Collection, Disney Formula Collection, Disney Gift Set Formula Collection, Disney Gift Set Cartoon Collection, Kit Disney Formula, and The Incredibles Collection.

That range is part of what makes Bburago’s Disney output so enjoyable. These cars do not all follow the same idea. Some feel close to character pieces, others keep more of their automotive roots, and some lean hard into colour, graphics, and cartoon styling.

Disney Classic Collection

The Disney Classic Collection is one of the most distinctive parts of the line. In 1:18 scale, models such as Donald’s 313, 113 Classic Mickey Mouse, Classic Scrooge, and Classic Goofy move away from ordinary car design and into something much more playful.

These pieces feel as if they could have driven straight out of a comic strip. The shapes are exaggerated, the styling is full of character, and the cars feel much closer to Disney display pieces than to standard model cars.

That gives the Classic Collection a very different shelf look from the rest of the range. It is less about realism and more about turning a familiar Disney character into a complete vehicle design.

Disney Character Collection

In our view, the Disney Character Collection is one of the most popular and strongest parts of the wider Bburago Disney range. This is where Bburago paired full Disney characters with recognisable classic and pre-war style vehicles, creating models that feel playful, display-worthy, and more display-oriented than ordinary licensed toy cars.

The line includes combinations such as Mercedes-Benz SSK Mickey Mouse, Chevrolet Corvette Daisy Duck, Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza Donald Duck, and Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider Mickey Mouse. For collectors who appreciate both recognisable vehicle design and Disney character presence, this may feel like the sweet spot in the programme. The cars still read clearly as cars, while the Disney characters give them a very different mood from regular die-cast releases.

Especially in the larger scales, these pieces have a more premium feel and a stronger display look, which helps explain why this part of the line remains so appealing.

Disney Cartoon Collection

The Disney Cartoon Collection takes a different route. Instead of focusing mainly on a figure in a vehicle, it uses the body of the car itself as part of the character design.

Examples include the Volkswagen Käfer-Beetle Mickey Mouse, Fiat 500 F Minnie Mouse, and Porsche 356 B Coupé Winnie the Pooh. These models lean more heavily into colour, graphics, and character styling, giving them a brighter and lighter look than the Character Collection.

Some collectors prefer the Character Collection because it keeps more of the car’s original identity. Others prefer the Cartoon Collection because it feels more openly Disney. That contrast gives the wider line more personality and stops it from becoming repetitive.

Disney Formula, Gift Sets, and The Incredibles

The Disney Formula Collection adds another side to the range. Here, Bburago placed Disney characters into Formula-style racing cars, giving the line a faster and more playful look than the classic road-car sections.

The programme also included the Disney Gift Set Formula Collection, Disney Gift Set Cartoon Collection, and Kit Disney Formula. Those formats widened the line beyond standard single-car releases and gave collectors more choice in how the Disney range was presented.

The smaller-scale part of the programme also included The Incredibles Collection, alongside smaller Disney Cartoon and gift set entries. That adds another interesting layer to the line, connecting it not only to classic Disney characters, but also to early-2000s Disney-Pixar collecting.

Why These Bburago Disney Cars Are Still Popular

Bburago’s Disney cars are still popular because the line offered real variety. The Classic Collection feels more stylised and comic-like. The Character Collection balances character design and car design especially well. The Cartoon Collection pushes the Disney side further. The Formula and gift set lines open the range up again in a different format.

That mix gives the line much more life than a single-theme licensed release. Some collectors are drawn to the classic Disney cast, some to the automotive base, and some simply to how unusual the whole concept feels compared with more familiar Disney figurines or ornaments.

For Precious Collectibles, that is exactly why Bburago deserves a place within a broader Disney-focused collection. Disney is one of the central pillars of our shop, and lines like this show how broad Disney collecting can be when licensing, design, and format come together well.
