A well-known statue among collectors is the large statue of Mickey Mouse as the ‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice‘ from the Walt Disney classic movie Fantasia. This statue is signed by the artist under his feet as S. Toth. This is why a lot of people think the artist is someone named Stoth, Sloth or S. Loth. If you look closely, you can see it is S. Toth.

Stefan Toth’s Production Process for Walt Disney

As most people know, Walt Disney is not the easiest company to work with due to its high standards. Keep in mind that these high standards protect the world of Walt Disney and everything you love about it. These standards ensure that all Disney products maintain their iconic quality and charm

Stefan Toth created a production process in collaboration with the Walt Disney creative team. This process starts with Stefan Toth rendering a 2D concept before he begins sculpting. When Walt Disney’s creative team agrees with the 2D concept, Stefan Toth can begin his sculpting process.

During sculpting, Stefan Toth not only needed to consider the quality and realistic design of the Walt Disney characters but also the maximum dimensions specified by Walt Disney. This made it particularly challenging. The sculpting was done with modeling clay.

After the sculpting was done, Stefan Toth and the Walt Disney creative team reconvened. They discussed the end result of the piece and whether any other changes needed to be made. When the end result met their satisfaction, the production process could start.

Goofy Grace Notes in the making

The hardcopy was poured into an epoxy mold. After the pouring, this mold needed some small adjustments to make it perfect. Then, the mold would be disassembled so it could be used for production. This step ensured that each part of the mold fit together seamlessly for the final casting.

After production, every piece was painted by hand. Each statue required meticulous attention to detail to ensure the colors matched the original design perfectly. The artists used high-quality paints to achieve a vibrant and durable finish. This final touch added to the uniqueness and value of each collectible.
